Teacher Eligibility in India for schools can be distinctly bifurcated into two categories:
- ‘General Teacher Eligibility’ Covers most Government and Private schools. For the CBSE and ICSE board Curriculums.
- ‘IB (International Baccalaureate) Teacher Eligibility: Teaching eligibility for teachers keen on teaching the IB Curriculum.

GENERAL TEACHER ELIGIBILITY
- Kindergarten School Teachers: NTT (Nursery Teacher Training) or D.EL.ED ( Diploma in Elementary Education. Along with being a 12th pass with 50% abv aggregate. From recognised board.
- Primary School Teachers:: NTT/PTT with B.Ed.
- Secondary School Teachers: B.Ed.: with another Bachelor’s Degree in Special subject (BA/B.Sc./B.Com/BBA)
- High School Teachers or Teachers for Grades 11 and 12: B.Ed., Other Bachelor’s Degree in Special Subject, M.Ed. (With special subject)
Any extras M.Phil., PhD. are welcomed and given seniority with regards to work responsibilities and salary structures.
ELIGIBILITY FOR CTET (Central Teachers Eligibility Test) and STET (State Teachers Eligibility Test)
- B.Ed. (Bachelors in Education) Is the minimum eligibility requirement to appear for a CTET and STET.
- The B.Ed. must be recognised by NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education).
– A CTET is mandatory for getting teaching jobs in Central Government Schools for Grades 1 to 8.
– STET provides opportunities for teachers to work in State Government School.
Eligibility for Physical Education Teacher
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education (3 Years of coursework)
