There are 4 learning patterns. Observe your child closely without prompting or disturbing them while they are studying. You will gradually learn about how he functions and his learning pattern before an exam.Work with his natural learning pattern and help them achieve their learning goals.
- THE CONFLUENT LEARNING PATTERN: This pattern relies on Intuition and Creativity. Does your child love to use his Ideas? Have you heard him say? “I feel the need to be unique in the way I complete my assignments. I don’t like having to do an assignment in only one way.” Imaginative. Is your child inclined and excited to explore new things, new ideas, new places…”Presentations/Creative Writing – Do you often find your child much inclined towards liking to write things the same way that they say them? Hence they may often think faster than what they can write and mistakenly omit a few words or sentences when writing. Risk taking have you observed him take risks with new ideas. He is not afraid of failure- If he make a mistake he looks at it as a learning and tries again till he achieves his goal
- THE PRECISE LEARNING PATTERN: This pattern seeks on Information and Detail. Your child may dislike making errors because he likes to work with exact and correct information. You may find that he thrives on precision. Your child needs Detailed information on any instruction to be able to do it right. He also tends to take detailed notes in class or otherwise. Have you heard your child ask you a lot of questions on any subject, instructions given to him by you? Have you heard his class teacher tell you that your child always has a question for her? Yes, he can process better when he has complete and detailed information on the subject. He could also spend more time studying a particular lesson of interest because then he gets interested in searching/learning more about his topic of interest and forgets that he has a lot to finish in his syllabus. Writes detailed answers and can talk at length about his researched topics of interest. Which could be distressing if he has a time limit and has to complete his answers within that time frame. He could often complain that he didn’t find enough time to finish his answers to his satisfaction.
- THE TECHNICAL REASONING PATTERN: This learning pattern seeks Autonomy and Relevance. Does your child love ‘Hands-On Learning’ which means he learns faster if he can apply theory to practice He thrives better if he is studying by himself. He often likes to take his time to figure things out by himself.Have you heard your child ask you “show me how I could use this in the real world”; “Show me how is It applied in the real world” Your child needs to understand the ‘Relevance” of what he is learning. You may hear him say things like: “Why should I learn this”?
- THE SEQUENTIAL PATTERN: This learning pattern seeks Consistency and Order Does your child need to follow or find it more comforting is he can follow Routine or a Plan? Have you observed that he does better if he is given clear explanations of what is expected of him?Clear Directions. Does your child ask repeated questions (which you may think are similar to the previous or obvious) about a task until he is absolutely clear about his task. Do you find yourself giving your child a planned time within which he can/must complete a task?Does he love to be very precise about the neatness of his work?
