My Journey

Women’s Emotional Wellbeing | Young Adults | Life Transitions

I support young adults and women navigating emotional challenges, relationships, and life transitions through reflective and evidence-informed counselling approaches. My work draws on prior counselling education, REBT-informed therapeutic training, and ongoing professional development in mental health and wellbeing.

Counsellor & Well Being Facilitator

“Many people reach counselling during moments when life feels emotionally overwhelming, uncertain, or difficult to make sense of. Sometimes it is a relationship challenge, a life transition, or a quiet feeling of being lost within one’s own thoughts and emotions. Having a space where you can speak openly, feel deeply heard, and begin to understand yourself more clearly can be an important step toward emotional clarity and healing.” -Sherene Chaz

About Me

My path into counselling began through years of working closely with young adults in educational settings. What I loved most about teaching was not only supporting students academically, but also witnessing their growth as individuals navigating identity, relationships, confidence, and life direction.

These conversations gradually extended beyond the classroom, and I found myself naturally listening, mentoring, and supporting them through emotionally complex moments.

Over time, many students began trusting me with their inner world, sharing fears, relationship struggles, heartbreak, and uncertainty about their future

These conversations gradually extended beyond the classroom, and I found myself naturally listening, mentoring, and supporting them through emotionally complex moments.

What began as guidance and mentorship slowly revealed something deeper. I realised I was drawn not only to helping people solve problems, but to understanding the emotional layers beneath them. The experiences, beliefs, fears, and turning points that shape how individuals see themselves and move through life.

As my interest in emotional wellbeing deepened, I also began facilitating small training and wellbeing workshops in educational and community settings. These sessions focused on themes such as communication, self-esteem, career transitions, and navigating relationships.

Working with groups allowed me to see how powerful shared reflection could be. Through storytelling workshops with adolescents, reflective art-based discussions, and relationship conversations with young adults and couples, I found myself increasingly drawn to creating spaces where people could pause, reflect, and speak openly about their emotional experiences.

These facilitation experiences became an important bridge between my work in education and my later move into counselling, gradually shaping the foundation of what would later become Serene Hour

My Counselling Journey

In my early work with young adults, I continued facilitating workshops focused on communication skills, self-esteem, career transitions, and navigating relationships. As trust grew, many individuals began opening up about deeper emotional struggles and life experiences that were shaping their behaviour and decisions.

Through these conversations, I came to understand how often our visible challenges are connected to deeper emotional histories. There is fear beneath hesitation, pain beneath defensiveness, and life experiences that influence how we relate to ourselves and others.

Supporting people through these layers required more than guidance alone. This realisation encouraged me to pursue counselling more intentionally and deepen my training in therapeutic work. Over time, my work expanded beyond young adults into deeper reflection around women’s emotional wellbeing, relationships, identity, emotional expression, and life transitions

My own lived experiences including motherhood and migration have also deepened my understanding of how profoundly life changes can shape identity and emotional resilience.

Counselling has become a space where my professional learning, lived experience, and genuine curiosity about human stories come together

Why Women’s Emotional Wellbeing Matters to Me

My interest in women’s emotional wellbeing grew both through my work and through personal experience. While supporting young women, I noticed how many struggled with questions around relationships, boundaries, consent, and self-worth often without having had the opportunity to openly explore these aspects of themselves.

A significant turning point for me came during my own pregnancy with twins. This experience brought a deeper awareness of the emotional and identity shifts many women experience during pregnancy and early motherhood.

Motherhood can be deeply meaningful, but it can also bring moments of uncertainty, exhaustion, and quiet emotional struggle. Sleep deprivation, changing relationships, shifting identities, and the invisible mental load of caregiving can sometimes leave women feeling unseen or unsupported.

Through these experiences, I developed a deep appreciation for the importance of spaces where women can speak openly about their emotional realities, without judgement.

My Approach

I aim to create a counselling space where individuals feel safe, heard, and supported to explore thoughts and emotions that may feel difficult to express elsewhere.

Many people who have worked with me describe my presence as calm, reflective, and grounding. I value listening with patience, curiosity, and compassion, allowing clients to move at their own pace while gaining greater understanding of themselves and their experiences.

My approach integrates counselling skills training, REBT – informed therapeutic principles, and reflective listening practices that support emotional insight, resilience, and relational awareness.

I believe counselling can help individuals develop clarity, strengthen emotional resilience, and reconnect with their own inner resources.

Get to know me

Outside of counselling, I am a mother to twins who bring immense curiosity and joy into my life. I enjoy painting, gardening, reading, and spending time outdoors. If I am not working, you will often find me exploring nature with my children, tending to my garden, or enjoying quiet moments of reflection with a book.

I also enjoy solitary walks, particularly along gardens or beaches, which offer space to slow down and reflect. I have always been curious about people and their stories, and I often find myself connecting with others through simple conversations while travelling or sharing a cup of coffee.

These quieter moments of reflection and connection continue to shape how I approach both life and counselling.
