Message from Sherene Chaz

Birth trauma can occur after any type of birth experience. For some women, labour and delivery can feel frightening and emotionally overwhelming. There may also be grief and unresolved anger around a loss of agency during childbirth, making it difficult to make sense of what happened. Birth trauma counselling at Serene Hour offers a safe, non-judgemental space to process these experiences at your pace. You do not need to minimise what you went through or explain it away.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is it still worth seeking counselling if the birth happened some time ago?

Yes. Some people notice the impact of birth trauma immediately, while for others it becomes more apparent over time, often during later parenting stages or subsequent pregnancies. There is no timeframe for when a birth experience should feel resolved. Counselling can be helpful whether the birth was recent or occurred months or years ago.

Birth trauma is not defined by a specific type of birth or medical outcome. Many people experience distress, fear, or a lasting emotional impact even when the birth appears uncomplicated from the outside. If your birth experience continues to feel upsetting, confusing, or unresolved, counselling can offer space to explore this without comparison, or the need to justify why it affected you.

Serene Hour does not provide crisis or emergency counselling services. If you are in immediate distress or concerned about your safety, please contact your local emergency services or a crisis support line for immediate assistance.

There is no set number of sessions. Some people find a short number of sessions helpful, while others choose to continue over a longer period. The pace and duration of counselling are guided by your needs and preferences, and can be reviewed at any point.
