Telehealth Counselling Policy

Serene Hour offers online counselling services using secure telehealth technology.

Telehealth allows counselling sessions to occur remotely via video conferencing.

Benefits of Telehealth

Telehealth counselling may:

  • improve accessibility
  • reduce travel time
  • provide flexibility and convenience
  • support continuity of care

Client Responsibilities

Clients are asked to:

  • attend sessions from a private and quiet location
  • ensure a stable internet connection where possible
  • use a suitable device and environment that supports privacy and stable communication
  • minimise interruptions during sessions
  • avoid recording sessions without written permission

Sessions must not be recorded by either party without prior consent.

Clients may be asked to confirm their physical location and emergency contact details at the start of each telehealth session.

Technology Risks

While reasonable efforts are made to protect privacy and security, telehealth involves some risks including:

  • internet disruptions
  • technical failures
  • unauthorised access outside our control

Serene Hour aims to use secure and reputable telehealth platforms; however, absolute security of internet-based communication cannot be guaranteed.

Emergency Situations

Telehealth counselling is not suitable for crisis or emergency support.

If immediate assistance is required:

  • call 000
  • contact Lifeline Australia on 13 11 14

Suitability of Telehealth

Telehealth counselling may not be appropriate for all individuals or situations.

Where appropriate, referrals to alternative or higher-level support services may be recommended.

Session Interruptions

If technical issues interrupt a session:

  • reasonable attempts will be made to reconnect
  • where appropriate, an alternative contact method may be arranged in case of technical disruption.
  • alternative arrangements may be discussed if required
